Do you remember the first time you got high? Was it everything you thought it would be? Maybe you and your friends laughed your heads off. You probably got the munchies and raided the frig. Maybe some shenanigans took place, like a game of tag or hide-and-seek in your underwear.
But maybe…just maybe you or someone else was sitting in the corner, paranoid and filled with anxiety, unsure about the “high” feeling. A bad trip is no laughing matter. Just ask someone whose had one. With that in mind, you’ll want to mindful when introducing cannabis to a friend for the first time. You’ll want them to enjoy it, right? Then follow these simple tips to make sure that happens.
It’s All about the Setting when You Smoke
The environment where you smoke will affect your high. For example, if you smoke before going to a crowded amusement park with flashing lights, you’re going to have a different experience than if you are at home on your couch and toking. So, the first time your friend smokes, be sure the setting is comfortable. Put on a movie or some music. Order take out and have it delivered. Go outside and look at the sky. Just make sure you put them in an environment where they can reach their happy place.
Add More CBD for the First Time
You really have no idea how THC will affect your friend since it affects everyone differently. For this reason, go with a strain with a high CBD content. That way, you and your friend can do a sort of test. See how they handle the strains that have minimal psychoactive affects. This is the perfect way for your friend to get their feet wet in the world of cannabis and still have the relaxing feeling that comes with smoking cannabis.
Take it Easy
When it’s time for your friend to smoke for the first time, put the bong away. Instead, take it easy by using a small pipe, a vaporizer, or rolling a small joint. Encourage them to take small hits and wait and see how they feel before taking another. Ease them in slowly to avoid any negative affects they could experience by smoking too much their first time. As long as they have a good experience, and keep on having a good time when smoking, you can break out the bong down the road.
Don’t Pig Out on the Edibles
Edibles aren’t really the best route for a first timer. In fact, edibles are pretty powerful and can be overwhelming if too much is eaten. For the first timer, start off with a small dose, approximately half a standard dose. It can take a while to feel it so don’t go gobbling up more thinking it’s not working. Be patient and wait.
Ask them How they Feel
If you notice your friend tripping out or just not feeling well, ask them what’s going on. If they’re having a bad time, there are a few things you can do to help alleviate the symptoms, including:
- Changing your environment
- Taking a shower
- Putting on a hilarious movie
- Drinking lots of water
- Taking a walk and getting some fresh air
- Taking a CBD product to counteract the THC
